Jess Tagg may be engaged to a New York City elite while making good on her billionaire father's crimes, but her heart is in Mercy Falls, and she is very much still in love with Pete Brooks. After leaving Montana and abandoning dreams of a future with Jess, Pete buries himself in his work as a search-and-rescue commander. Through flashbacks and memories, the reasons behind Jess and Pete's missed chances are revealed. When they find themselves lost in the forest and being hunted by an at-large killer, the two must fight for their lives—and love—one last time. Warren's return to her popular Montana Rescue series features plenty of its familiar touchstones, including dramatic rescues, congenial camaraderie, and near-miss chances in love. Her characters are down-to-earth and rugged with raw emotion, and she brings a refreshing sensitivity to her leading men. With themes of forgiveness, perseverance, and trust versus fear in love, this adrenaline-inducing story will have readers racing to its gripping conclusion. Copyright 2018 Booklist Reviews.

A wedding reception is disrupted by a kidnapping in Warren's pulse-quickening sixth and final Montana Rescue inspirational thriller (after Storm Front). Search and rescue incident commander Pete Brooks has been in Missouri helping survivors of a flash flood. He rescued a family, but their child didn't survive, and he leaves for his home in Montana with a heavy heart. Jess Tagg (the heir of a billionaire who became rich through a Ponzi scheme) is living the life of a New York socialite with her fiancé, Felipe. But when Jess is attacked by one of her father's former victims and her mother nearly discovers that her romantic engagement is actually a ruse, Jess decides she must return to Montana and come clean with longtime crush Pete to see whether there is any hope for them to be together. Mutual friend Ben King's wedding conveniently offers an excuse for many of the previous installments' characters to converge on Mercy Falls, Mont. Among them, Ned, a brother of one of the PEAK team members and failed smoke jumper, goes to the reception in hopes of surprising Shae, with whom he previously survived a tornado, with the news that he has enlisted in the Navy. But Ned, Shae, and Jess are run off the road and kidnapped, and Pete and Felipe must come together to find them. Faith becomes crucial as the characters rely on their prayers to get them through the harrowing events. This finale will thrill series fans, but newcomers will need to read the previous entries.
